Fire, smoke and soot services in Galveston

A kitchen coated in soot from a grease fire, smoke that climbed to the rooms upstairs or charred framing to clear: choose what you found in Galveston.

Our Process

How we handle fire damage restoration in Galveston

1We close up the house with boards and tarps

Where the fire broke windows or burned through the roof, we board up the openings and tarp the roof. Galveston sits between Galveston Bay and the Gulf, and an open roof on the island lets the next rain and wind inside.

2We clean the soot and remove the smoke odor

Many older Galveston homes sit on raised foundations, and smoke can work its way into the attic, the wall cavities and the space under the floor. We clean soot from ceilings, walls and contents, and smoke odor removal follows in each space the smoke reached.

3We store your belongings and rebuild

We clean what can be saved, store it while the house is repaired and bring it back afterward. Burned material leaves with fire debris removal, and the rebuild follows the structure cleaning.

“Working with Watchtower was a pleasure; they made our disaster easy to deal with. Very responsive and knowledgeable, highly recommend to anybody that has any kind of home disaster of any sort.”

We Work With All Insurance Companies

A Galveston fire claim usually sits on the homeowners or landlord policy, not the flood or windstorm one. We photograph each room, so the soot is on record with the char.

Why Us

Why Galveston homeowners hire us for fire damage restoration

We answer the phone 24/7

When you call about a fire, a person answers at any hour, and the conversation can be in English or Spanish. We work across Galveston, from the East End and Silk Stocking historic districts to Pirates Beach and Sea Isle on the West End.

We document every room the smoke reached

About one Galveston home in five was built in 1939 or earlier, and smoke can travel through old framing, plaster and attic space into rooms the fire never touched. Our record of the loss covers each room with photos, moisture readings and an itemized scope, so it shows where the smoke went and what the hoses soaked.

We work with all insurance companies

More than half of Galveston homes are rented, so the building and the belongings inside it can fall under separate policies. We explain ACV, RCV and depreciation in plain English, and we share our photos and scope when we talk with each insurance company involved.

“We suffered a small fire in our house alittle over a week ago, Watchtower came to the house and talked to us about repair. The person that came out Michael Sullivan ( Sully) was not pressuring us and explained every step. What really sold me was that Sully kept in contact with us and didn't pressure us into signing an agreement. Josh was more than helpful and also made the ordeal bearable. Sully is truly an asset to the company. Since this a work in progress there will be more to follow at a later time”

FAQs

Common questions about fire damage in Galveston

Plain answers about the work, the estimate and your insurance.

When can we go back into our Galveston home after a fire?

Stay out until the fire department clears the building for entry. Soot that settles on furniture and floors can irritate the lungs, so a family member with asthma may be better off staying with family until the cleanup is done. Ask your doctor first.

What does the free fire damage estimate in Galveston include?

It is free and carries no obligation. We walk the house with you and write an itemized scope of the burned material, the smoke and soot, and the water from the hoses. You decide what to do with it.

Our Galveston house is in a historic district. Can you restore it after a fire?

Yes, we clean the smoke and soot and handle the rebuild. The City's Landmark Commission reviews restoration work in the East End, Lost Bayou, Silk Stocking and Strand/Mechanic districts, and most projects are decided at staff level. Check with the City's historic preservation office before exterior work starts.

Will you talk with my insurance company about the fire?

Yes. We send them the same photos, moisture readings and scope we gathered on our first walk through the house. Your insurance company decides what your policy covers.

Do you clean up fire damage at Galveston businesses?

Yes. We work on businesses as well as homes. A fire in a shop on the Strand leaves smoke, soot and debris the same way a house fire does. For a business we follow the same order, with board-up first, then cleaning and the rebuild.

The fire was next door. Can smoke damage our Galveston house too?

It can. Smoke and soot travel through open windows, vents and gaps into a house that never burned. Many older Galveston homes sit on raised foundations, so smoke can also get in from the space under the floor. We check each room and record what we find in photos and an itemized scope.

We rent our Galveston house to tenants. Who handles the fire cleanup?

More than half of Galveston homes are rented, so the building and the belongings inside it often sit on separate policies. The owner's policy usually covers the building, and a renters policy may cover the tenant's things. We document both in one itemized scope and share it with each insurance company involved.
